Cancer Aid North and East (CANE) is a UK-based charitable organization founded in 1993 to support cancer patients in the Northern and Eastern Provinces of Sri Lanka. CANE’s aim is to provide medical, financial and other assistance to cancer patients. In 2006, CANE established the CANE Jaffna Hospice, a residence for palliative patients and their families where they receive medical, psychological and spiritual care and support. In addition to supporting patients and families, CANE also runs cancer awareness and prevention programs in collaboration with Jaffna Medical School. Health care workers in Northern Province receive training at the hospice.
Two Worlds Cancer Collaboration (TWCC) is a non-profit Canadian organization whose mission is to assist healthcare professionals in resource-constrained countries reduce the burden of cancer and non-cancer palliative care. The Tamil Canadian community was introduced to TWCC and its impressive work in Nepal,
India, Brazil, among other places, by a way of the 2017 Develop North-East Conference in Toronto. TWCC sent 8-person multi-national team on a needs assessment mission to Northern Province in November 2017. TWCC pledges its support to building a strong Palliative Care program in Northern Province.
International Medical Health Organization (IMHO) Canada is a charitable, humanitarian, non-political organization that aims to relieve poverty, develop public health, and coordinate health care services in under-served regions of the world. IMHO Canada was first formed in 2008 by a group of Canadian professionals and
volunteers. IMHO Canada works to provide assistance during times of emergency, after natural or manmade disasters. This emergency relief work complements IMHO Canada’s ongoing structural and capacity-building work to enhance health care opportunities and relief.
Tamil Medical Pharmaceutical Association (TMPA) is a Canadian non-profit organization formed in 2017 by a group of experienced and skilled professionals in the Pharmaceutical, Medical Device and Biotechnology industries. TMPA provides an open forum within the Tamil community for professionals in the Bioscience industry to network and connect with each other. The TMPA team coordinates programs and events that advance the professional development of its members. The group also mentors recent graduates about the opportunities available to them within the industry. As part of their outreach effort and firm commitment to giving back to the community, TMPA is proud to partner with the 2018 Tamil Canadian Walk in support of the Northern Province Palliative Care Initiative.
